John Frye - 2010 Team Franco
John winning both the novice and open overall's in the 2010 OCB Central Eastern Seaboard. A pro card is next! I have been weight training for years and had always wanted to take that next step and compete. I finally made the decision to do it back in May 2009. I did tons of research online and talked to many people about contest prep. I thought that I had enough knowledge to do well and wound up being disappointed with the results. I was a little discouraged but decided to try it again in November of 2009. I made some improvements but still felt as though I was lost, as far as how to actually be a factor at a show.
To me, competition is both healthy and necessary. Competition gives people a reason to strive for something better and to make themselves better. I have always been EXTREMELY competitive and have competed most of my life in things ranging from softball to horseshoes. I can honestly say that I never minded losing as long as I can say that I gave it 100%. I realized that as bad as I wanted to compete and do well at a bodybuilding show, I really wasn’t giving myself the best shot to accomplish this because I didn’t have the experience or knowledge necessary to achieve my goal. I wanted to put myself in a position to win by working with a trainer who had “been there, done that” and had the same passion for bodybuilding that I had. That’s when I found Joe Franco!
I started with Joe back in December of 2009 and unfortunately wound up having back surgery in January that put me out of commission for a little over a month. Joe designed a program for me to gradually work myself back into shape and to get my legs back under me. Joe provided me with a nutrition plan that would have me gradually lose body fat while maintaining muscle mass. Working with macros made it easy for me, as long as I hit my numbers, I would see improvements. There were times that I got nervous about the progress I was making but Joe assured me that if I was patient, the results would come, and they did! We shot for the 2010 OCB Central Eastern Seaboard show in Delaware on June 19. As it got closer, I got leaner and leaner and Joe was making adjustments to my diet along the way that got me into the best shape I’ve ever been in. The final week was always a real problem for me with so many opinions about when to carb up, sodium loading/depleting, water intake, etc. Joe planned out the entire last week for me, up to and including the day of the show and took all of the pressure off of me. I was fortunate enough to win the Novice, Open and Overall titles at the show and there’s absolutely no way I could have done it without the professional knowledge and experience of Joe Franco! Thanks Joe for everything and I look forward to working with you towards taking that next step.
